The Guest Who Won’t Leave!Posted: August 21, 2012
Family members that you haven’t heard from in years call to let you know they’re taking a vacation in Florida this year and would like to see you. As you’re talking some how, their visit turns into a stay at your place. Maybe your family visits every year and stays with you and you plan and look forward to that, but the guest who overstay their welcome however could be overwhelming.
For some people, it’s a pleasant experience because you’re enjoying time with your family and friends. Maybe you’re playing tourist guide and being repaid in them having a fun, a few nights treating you out to dinner or a hostess gift.
What happens when your home becomes their hotel, your pool, their watering hole ,your kitchen their restaurant, the list goes on and the expenses go up. You may feel like you’ve lost your privacy. You’re spending money on extra food and electricity and your house is getting harder to keep clean each day. You may be worried that the gate is left open to the pool while their children are unattended, or an unexpected slip and fall.
What if someone gets hurt in your home or your pool? What if they damage your home? Thank goodness that your homeowners insurance will cover these situations. Liability insurance covers injuries to visitors, their medical bills and your legal bills if they decide to sue you. Your home structure insurance also covers damages like fire.
If you live in a condo, first check to see if you allowed to have visitors, for how long, if and when they are allowed to use the facilities and if and where they can park their car. Your condo insurance will cover any injuries to your guests and damage they may cause to the facilities, the open area like the lobby and your condo itself.
These are incidents that most people don’t want to think about, especially when it comes to family, but it can happen. It’s as simple as someone missing a step and injuring an ankle. It doesn’t have to be that they are being disruptive. Accidents happen even to the best of us, even when we’re having a good time. You can have a no visitors policy and miss out on special times with your loved ones or make the best of it and open your doors to them for a while and know that if anything happens Budget Bi Rite has you covered.
