Motorcycle Safety and Insurance Tips You Need To KnowPosted: January 7, 2016
Whether you are driving or a passenger on a motorcycle, there is something very special about hitting the open road on a beautiful day and taking in the sights and much more enjoyable to know that you are protected in case of an accident or theft.
In the state of Florida, Florida’s No-Fault or PIP law for insurance does not apply for motorcycles.
You must have insurance though to drive a motorcycle, but what type is required?
Property damage and bodily injury liability insurance is required and if your decision is to not want to wear a helmet, you must carry a minimum of $10,000 in medical insurance.
Without motorcycle insurance, you risk penalties such as,
Loss of License
Loss of Tag/Registration
Restitution for any damages you may cause in an accident
Three years of high risk SR22 mandatory liability insurance coverage
Not only are we talking high risk, we are also talking higher amounts of money coming out of your pocket.
Your Medical expenses
Damage to your motorcycle
Loss of income due to injury
when all this could be avoided.
Lets face it, you are taking a risk every time you get on a motorcycle. When an accident occurs, what is said from the other party’s involved in many causes is “I did not see them”, where did that motorcycle come from”? Rule of thumb. If you are driving a motorcycle, you need be on the lookout, don’t expect the other people on the road to look out for you.
In effect as of July 1, 2008 all first-time motorcycle license applicants must complete a Basic Riders Course to obtain their motorcycle endorsement.
Knowledge of your motorcycle, safety, and the rules of surviving on a motorcycle give you that much more of an edge. Bundle that with Insurance for protection in case anything happens and you can be riding with more comfort.
As much as people concentrate on the injuries, there is another form of insurance to consider when owning a motorcycle.
One of the biggest rackets out there is stealing motorcycles to strip them down and sell the parts.
Protect your investment and make you motorcycle less appealing to be stolen.
