There are enough distractions on the road without adding in talking on the phone or worse texting someone. You have responsibilities to yourself, your passengers and others on the road when you get behind the wheel.
There has been a timeline addressing this issue starting in May 2013; Governor Scott signed a bill that will make texting while driving illegal. Motorists would be ticketed for texting while driving if they are pulled over for other traffic infractions. This took effect October 1st, 2013.

January 1, 2020 brings us to updates on the laws of texting and driving in Florida: Drivers can expect to get a ticket if they are caught texting while the car is in motion, but you may text if you are at a stop sign. Read more about this Here

One of the biggest causes for accidents is distractions and driving and texting is certainly proven to be a big one.
It’s simple: Do Not Text or Talk on the Phone while driving. What do we tell our kids when they reach the age of driving? It’s a privilege not a right. In Florida you can get a traffic ticket for being a distracted driver and worse cause an accident.
If you must answer a call, get a hands free phone. If you must text, pull over.
